President Donald Trump has announced plans to potentially deploy National Guard troops to Chicago, citing concerns over crime rates in the city. Trump stated that Chicago would "probably" be the next target for National Guard intervention, following his recent deployment of troops to Washington, D.C.

President Trump said that he planned to target Chicago and New York for his next federal crackdown on crime, suggesting he was willing to use active-duty troops on city streets.

Trump told reporters " I think Chicago will be our next, and then we'll help New York. We’re going to make our cities very, very safe. Chicago is a mess. We’ll straighten that one out probably next. That will be our next one after this, and it won’t even be tough.I really am honored that the National Guard has done such an incredible job working with the police, and we haven’t had to bring in the regular military, which we’re willing to do. After we do this, we’ll go to another location, and we’ll make it safe also." on Friday.

President Trump's order to deploy National Guard troops to the streets raises concerns because federal law prohibits the use of military personnel for civilian law enforcement, except when authorized by the Constitution or another federal law.
